100 Acts of Kindness to the Environment

A Global Movement for Nature, Science, and Creativity

🌍 The Movement

The environment is part of who we are — yet many people feel disconnected from nature and unsure how to help. Climate change, pollution, and ecosystem loss can feel overwhelming, but small, consistent actions truly add up.

100 Acts of Kindness to the Environment is an invitation to take 100 meaningful steps for our planet. Through simple, everyday acts — powered by citizen science — participants help restore ecosystems, collect valuable environmental data, and tell a new story of stewardship through creativity and community.

This is more than a challenge.
It’s action with purpose.
Creativity with impact.
And a global movement rooted in hope.

2. Choose Your Acts of Kindness

Powered by Citizen Science

Every act in this project contributes to real environmental research. We partner with SciStarter-supported citizen science apps, which allow your everyday actions to become data scientists can use to protect ecosystems worldwide.

How it works:

  • Create a free account on SciStarter
  • Download one or more partner apps to your phone or tablet (Apple App Store or Google Play)
  • Connect those apps to your SciStarter dashboard so your actions count toward the 100 Acts of Kindness project

Acts of Kindness Categories:

🌿 Trees & Mangroves

Observe, care for, or plant trees and mangroves

Acts can include planting a new tree or mangrove, caring for existing ones, or simply observing and documenting trees in your neighborhood, school, or natural areas. This might look like watering young trees, checking on growth, identifying species, or monitoring coastal mangroves.

Why it matters: Absorbs carbon, prevents erosion, and creates habitat.

Log your impact with:

🚮 Litter Cleanup

Remove trash from natural and community spaces

Pick up litter wherever you see it — on beaches, along roadsides, in parks, schoolyards, waterways, or your own neighborhood. Acts can be as small as collecting a few items during a walk or as large as organizing a group cleanup.

As you collect trash, record what you find (plastic bottles, food wrappers, fishing line, cans, etc.) so researchers can better understand pollution patterns.

Why it matters: Protects wildlife and keeps plastics out of waterways.

Log your impact with:

♻️ Recycling & Waste Reduction

Reduce waste before it reaches landfills or the ocean

Acts can include sorting and recycling plastic, glass, or cans; collecting recyclables during cleanups; or reducing waste at home, school, or events. Before recycling or repurposing, log the items you’ve collected so they count toward your impact.

You can also use this category for acts like helping others recycle properly or tracking waste you’ve diverted from the trash.

Why it matters: Keeps materials out of landfills and reduces pollution.

Log your impact with:

Track collected or sorted items in Litter Journal or Marine Debris Tracker before recycling.

3. Document & Share the Impact

Your journey inspires others.

  • Take photos or short videos of your acts
  • Share on social media
  • Follow and Tag @100ActsMovement on Instagram
  • Use #100ActsMovement and #100ActsOfKindness
  • Always include your location so we can map kindness around the world

Together, we make invisible actions visible.

4. Create Your Final Piece

After completing your 100 acts, reflect on your journey and create something inspired by your experience.

This could be:

  • Music or songwriting
  • Poetry or spoken word
  • Visual art or photography
  • Film, storytelling, or mixed media

Your piece doesn’t have to be perfect — just honest.

Selected works will be featured in a Community Showcase in The Bahamas and shared in a Global Online Reveal, celebrating creativity born from care for the planet.

📊 Why Citizen Science Matters

By using the apps above, your acts of kindness become data points. Scientists use this information to:

  • Track pollution patterns
  • Monitor forest growth
  • Study biodiversity and ecosystem health

You’re not just helping your neighborhood — you’re contributing to global environmental understanding.
